Re-purpose projects
Napier, Interior & Spatial Design
Re-purposing projects are one of those I'm the most proud of. It teaches how to understand the existing material or space and give it a new meaning. Below I chose 3 projects from my 2nd and 3rd year studies:
1. House Boat - creating a space-saving house on a canal boat, this home can be almost self sufficient as in few simple steps it can transform into a cafe as well. I proposed tactile, natural materials like whitewashed stone, rustic timber, fur and introduced space saving solutions like elevated bath to allow for the bed to be hidden underneath and hanging cafe chairs
2. Quartermile in Edinburgh is a stylish Fosters Partners designed area in popular among students and hospitality businesses. We were asked to use it as a space for young professionals who lead a nomadic lifestyle. All the partitions and furniture has to be bespoke and easily transported in a van and adapted to new environments. I liked exploring how bespoke fit-all solutions can be repurposed and adapted instead of offering only one-house interior design. I took inspiration from scaffolds.
3. Re-skate Shop - located in Morningside, existing retail space and a lot of broken or unused skateboards.. the solution? Shop and workshop selling new designs and products. I used the school workshop for the first time while working on this project, I cut the skateboard into strips and created a modular lamp.
