Since we bought the flat we were unhappy about the way our doors open. All of them open (or used to open as most of the swing direction we've changed already) into the room, obstructing the view and making the room feel smaller, not providing with the sense of openness and welcoming we're after.
Upstairs we changed the way the doors open, which meant having to change the position of the light switch. We have also painted them white which works really well with bedrooms, giving them calming, bright ambience. The downstairs hallway where we spend most of our time and is the place where we welcome the guests into our house could be bolder and personalised. We opted for Farrow and ball - Off-black in eggshell as well as honey mustard front door from
Dulux. NOW this is full of character, gives a clear idea of who we are and what we like. The dark colour is not overwhelming at all, I think it is a creative and very sleek colour. The yellow front door is like bringing the south facing light into the house. We receive lots of complements and what's more important we love it.
One thing which was very difficult was to decide on the ironmongery... we inherited polished stainless steel but when we ordered black recessed handle, door handles and thumbturn, we were not impressed! They were disappearing on the Off Black colour.

Black handle on off black paint.
